Insight Product Development was tasked by ICON Fitness to create a touchscreen interface/console that could be deployed on a fitness machine prototype. It would be featured at the IHRSA convention later that year as the world’s first exercise equipment that used a touchscreen.
Visual Style/ I first worked on an alternate visual aesthetic so as to present two options to the client. For inspiration, I looked at products that embodied a blend of utility, elegance, and performance.
(L-R) Inspiration for alternative visual style: Braun ET44, iPhone Stopwatch, Land Rover Discovery instrument cluster and radio.
Alternate In-workout display.
Alternate In-workout TV Setup.
Mockups/ After the client chose a visual style, I worked on creating the icons for the GUI and the design of the workout setup screens.
Workout Type Selection.
Workout Setup and Adjustment.
On-screen Icon set.
Delivery/ Once these were done, the Flash-based GUI was installed on the prototype's console and shipped to the trade show.

After the show, the prototype's GUI would be further developed into the version that is currently running on ICON's FreeMotion elliptical and treadmill trainers.
